نوشته‌های ویوکاناندا درباره هند چشم‌اندازی فراگیر از عظمت تمدنی این ملت، رنج‌هایش در دوران استعمار و رستاخیز مقدرش از طریق نوزایی معنوی و اجتماعی ترسیم می‌کند. او معتقد بود که هدیه بی‌نظیر هند به جهان فلسفه معنوی آن است، اما تأکید می‌کرد که نوزایی ملی مستلزم رسیدگی به فقر همگانی، ستم طبقاتی و محرومیت آموزشی با همان فوریت امر دینی است. سخنرانی‌ها و مقالات او درباره هند همچنان متون بنیادین ملی‌گرایی نوین هند و جنبش اصلاح اجتماعی به شمار می‌روند.
